Cosplay Attire

  • TOKYO X encourages all of our attendees to come in and be creative with their cosplay ideas. We want to see the most unique and creative design you have.  In accordance with the local, state, and federal safety and regulations, there are some restrictions as to what can be worn and what can be brought to the event. Please be mindful and respectful to everyone.

This event is open to everyone and body shaming or being inappropriate to guests or con-goers will not be tolerated. Any minor infractions of the rules will result in being asked to be changed. Any major or repeated infractions to the rules will result in you forfeiting your entry from the event with no refunds.

Consequently, we request that all participants adhere to the following guidelines listed below.
  • Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times in the convention center.

Thongs are not allowed, except when worn over a garment that completely covers the genital area and the entire buttocks.

Do not wear clothes that promote porn, strong language, or any other graphic content. This rule applies to language, innuendos, and images. This is a family-friendly convention. The event staff reserves the right to ask for removal or cover up any offensive graphics; if attendees can not comply, they will be escorted to leave the event.

  • Women: Your costume must cover, at minimum, as much as a modest bathing suit. Breasts need to be 70% covered and buttocks must be completely covered. If your costume calls for a thong, pasties or other below-minimum-coverage elements, please wear a bodysuit beneath it. Genitalia and/or nipples must not be visible through the costume.

Men: Your costume must cover at least as much as swimming trunks. If it includes a Speedo-cut brief or similar, wear pants or a bodysuit underneath. Morph suits and skin-tight outfits require appropriate undergarments and cannot be worn without anything underneath. Ensure that no genitalia or nipples are visible.

The portrayal of nudity, even as an illusion, is unacceptable in any form. There are no exceptions.

Body makeup that easily smears or transfers to any person or property cannot not be worn. Please properly seal and set all makeup so that does not happen. Staff reserves the right to “smear test” for proper setting of blood or makeup. If your makeup does not comply you will be asked to remove the makeup.

You must have a clear line of sight; this includes peripheral vision. Being only able to see through a tiny eye slot does NOT constitute a clear line of sight. If this is unavoidable, cosplayer MUST have a handler at all times. Other cosplayer with masks or heads does not qualify as a handler. This rule does apply to attendees in fur suits as well, you require a handler with you at all times. This is due to the large crowds and tight confines of the convention center space and is for the safety of all.

You cannot pose as military or first responders: There are no realistic depiction of the military, law enforcement, or other official government uniforms allowed. No first responders' uniforms are allowed at the convention.

Please understand that we are facilitating these topics to prevent issues such as sexual assault, domestic violence, bullying, body shaming, etc.

  • Toplessness is not allowed in the convention area due to center policy. Genitalia and nipples must be fully covered by clothing. Liquid latex and body paint cannot be used as substitutes for actual clothing, though they may be used as enhancements.

Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times in the convention center. Appropriate footwear is required at all times in the venue. If your costume calls for bare feet, you may wear flip-flops or ballet slippers, but the soles of your feet should not come in contact with the floor. If your costume requires a morph suit or unitard-type outfit you must pad the soles of the costume.

Inline skates (i.e. Rollerblades), roller skates, togo skates, sneaker skates (i.e. Heelys), and the like may not be worn or used in the convention area.

  • All props brought into the convention and surrounding spaces are the responsibility of the owner. The owner assumes and acknowledges the risk of prop damage, loss, or theft. The owner assumes full liability for oneself and for others. TOKYO X is not  held liable for any damage, loss, or stolen prop or items.

TOKYO X is also not responsible for any injury, harm, damage, or other liability associated with any person’s weapon, prop, or costume during the convention. TOKYO X has the right to not permit any weapons for any reason into the convention, at any given time.

Misuse of your prop: Use of props which violates any rules in any way, or if it’s deemed unsafe by staff will result in removal from the event without refund.

  • No Live or Steel Metal: No prop or weapon made of metal is allowed. Any sharp-pointed weapon or blade will immediately be asked to be put away before entering the event. Dull wood weapons and plastic weapons are allowed, but may not be swung, brandished, or involved in other sorts of motion.

No Real Guns or Firearms allowed: Prop Guns are also not allowed. Anyone who brings in a replica of a firearm will be asked to be removed from the event or leave the premises. Foam & cardboard is ok.

Absolutely NO kind of explosives (including firecrackers or fireworks) are allowed

  • Please remember this is a family friendly event and Tokyo X staff reserves the right to make final judgment calls on what is “decent”. If staff feels that your costume is indecent or inappropriate in any way, you will be asked to change or cover it. If attendee does not want to comply, they will be escort out of event.
